HOUSTON (ICIS)--All grades of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin are tight in Venezuela, as domestic resin is not being delivered in the full volumes ordered, industry sources said on Thursday.
Supply of injection grade PVC was gauged as critically short, while additives for PVC were also lacking.
PVC resin imports have stopped and are not expected to resume until May, as foreign currency is not available to pay suppliers from abroad, sources said.
Assessments about domestic PVC production are mixed, with most sources pointing to reduced rates at local PVC maker Pequiven, while some maintain that production is normal.
The news in Venezuela continues to focus on the unrest in the streets and resulting uncertainty in commercial, industrial and personal activity.
Shortages of food staples, medicine and raw materials are prevalent and are not expected to be resolved in the near term.
