LONDON (ICIS)--EU diethanolamine (DEA) exports in January  grew to more than six times the levels seen in the same period last year, according to data released by statistics agency Eurostat on Monday.

Exports for January were 3,246 tonnes compared to 505 tonnes in the same period last year. The product was largely said to be heading to North America, for production of herbicides.

Imports also rose but to a lesser extent, from 409 tonnes to 623 tonnes.

DEA is usually the least-traded ethanolamine, with limited production in Europe, but also limited demand.
