HOUSTON (ICIS)--CB&I has won a contract to provide the license and engineering design for a planned propane dehydrogenation (PDH) and butane dehydrogenation unit in Dongying in China’s Shandong province, the US-based energy and petrochemicals engineering firm said in a statement released on Tuesday.

CB&I said that the project by Shandong Sincier Petrochemical will be designed to process feeds containing 165,000 tonnes/year of propane and 250,000 tonnes/year of iso-butane for the joint production of propylene and isobutylene.

The Shandong project will use CATOFIN dehydrogenation technology, it added.

"This project award demonstrates the flexibility of the CATOFIN technology and catalyst to allow customers to co-process multiple feed compositions at optimal conditions for the highest yields with proven operational reliability," said Daniel McCarthy, president of CB&I's technology operating group.

"The new CATOFIN unit will enable Shandong Sincier to process cost-effective LPG [liquefied petroleum gas] feedstocks," he added.
