HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based INVISTA on Wednesday broke ground on its nylon 6,6 intermediates and polymer facility at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in China.
The 150,000 tonne/year nylon 6,6 polymer plant and 215,000 tonne/year hexamethylene diamine (HMDA) plant are expected to start up in 2015, the producer said. HMDA is a key intermediate for nylon 6,6.
INVISTA also has plans for a future plant that produces 300,000 tonnes/year of adiponitrile (ADN), a key intermediate for HMDA.
The overall investment in these plants will exceed $1bn and is part of INVISTA’s plans for integrated nylon 6,6 facilities in the China market.
“We believe that China is driving global nylon demand growth, and the use of nylon 6,6 intermediates and polymer in the region will be increasing, said Warren Primeaux, president of INVISTA Intermediates. "We are excited to continue supporting the increasing regional demand for durable goods - products that can be enhanced by the use of nylon 6,6.”
ADN, HMD and nylon 6,6 polymer are materials in the production of nylon 6,6 fibres and resins used in air bags, automobile parts, carpet, workout apparel, outdoor equipment and more.
