HOUSTON (ICIS)--US refined glycerine second quarter negotiations are in full swing heading into this year's International Petrochemical Conference (IPC) and some upward movement has been heard for tallow-based refined glycerine tier.
Most prices levels heard filtering out of the quarter's negotiations are within the published ranges for both tallow and vegetable-grade refined glycerine.
With inventory levels low through the entire supply chain, buyers are trying to secure their necessary quantities for the second quarter, sources said.
In some cases, especially in the tallow-based tier, that means those who started at or below the low end of the published ranges were seeing a modest price increase in the second quarter.
Kosher-grade refined glycerine ranges were heard hovering at the upper end of the vegetable refined glycerine price range, with a few kosher contracts falling slightly above the current published levels.
End-use segments in food and beverages, tobaccos, pet foods and industrial tiers are all said to be performing well and underpinning the snugness in the refined segment.
US refined glycerine suppliers include Procter & Gamble, Vantage Oleochemical, Emery Oleochemical, Twin Rivers Technology and Peter Cremer North America.
Major importers include Wilmar, Acme-Hardesty and several trading groups.
Hosted by the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM), the IPC takes place 30 March through 1 April in San Antonio, Texas.
