Rollover in European freely negotiated BPA contracts

LONDON (ICIS)--European freely-negotiated bisphenol A (BPA) contracts rolled over from March to April despite a slight  increase in the benzene feedstock. However contract prices had risen for three consecutive months, and increased significantly in March while benzene fell.

Reduced supply of cheaper Asian-origin product continues to be a major factor in European pricing, with producers and traders gratefully using the opportunity to improve margins that were strongly squeezed by aggressive Asian selling in Q2 and Q3 2013.

This situation shows no immediate signs of abating, with South Korea’s LG Chem and Taiwan’s Chang Chun Plastics both postponing restarts at their respective BPA plants.
