HOUSTON (ICIS)--Dow Chemical has announced that it will not change prices for April from March on any of the polyethylene resin (PE) qualities that it sells in all of its Latin American markets because neither demand nor supply changes in recent weeks justify any price movement at this point, market sources familiar with the situation confirmed Friday.
Dow, which sells products across the region all the way from Mexico down to Argentina, likely opted to keep prices unchanged because even though overall PE supply across the continent is not enough to be considered “ample” and there really isn’t any product excess in any quality, Latin American demand levels are still, generally speaking, far from being strong.
In addition, feedstock prices have not changed enough to justify price movement proposals, sources added.
Company officials could not be immediately reached for confirmation or comment. PE products marketed by Dow in Latin America include qualities such as high density polyethylene (HDPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE).
