LONDON (ICIS)--Malaysia's PETRONAS Chemical Group Berhad (PCGB) late on Monday named experienced chemical engineer Sazali bin Hamzah as its new CEO, effective 1 May 2014.
The 48-year-old has more than 24 years' experience in petroleum refining and petrochemicals industries and most recently headed a PETRONAS division that oversaw downstream major capital projects valued at more than $10bn, the company said in a filing with the country's stock exchange.
"Sazali Hamzah is also a board member of iChemE, Malaysian branch, and also board member of three PETRONAS subsidiaries," the company added. "Prior to joining PCGB, Sazali was the managing director and CEO of PETRONAS Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn.
According to the PCGB website, the company's existing president and CEO is Abd Hapiz bin Abdullah, who took up the position in May 2011.
No reference was made to the current incumbent in yesterday's filing and it is unclear if there will be any change to his position as PCGB president.
