LONDON (ICIS)--European diethanolamine (DEA) prices continue to see upward pressure in April, sources said on Wednesday.

DEA prices have risen over the last two months, driven by healthier demand and more limited imports. This situation is said to be persisting into April.

“DEA demand is still huge, prices still go up. [They are] definitely above 1,200 [€/tonne],” said one producer.

“DEA is up a little and not easy to find,” said one distributor.

The shortage of supply is exacerbated by a planned maintenance shutdown at AkzoNobel’s Swedish ethanolamines plant, scheduled for early May. The shutdown is already reducing volumes available for the spot market.
