SEOUL (ICIS)--South Korea’s LG Chem intends to shut its Daesan-based aromatics plant for a scheduled turnaround in March-April 2015, a company source said on Thursday.
Further shutdown details will be released on a later date.
Prior to which the hydrodealkylation (HDA) unit will continue to operate so as to maintain high output of benzene as compared to toluene, the source added.
Pending market conditions, if the HDA plant is to shut, the benzene output will reduce to 200,000 tonnes/year at the Daesan site, while toluene capacity will increase to 100,000 tonnes/year and solvent xylene to 69,000 tonnes/year, he said.
Its Yeosu-based aromatics facility, which can produce 240,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 96,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 36,000 tonnes/year of solvent xylenes, will not conduct any scheduled maintenance in 2015, as it will undergo a planned turnaround from mid-Octber 2014 for 40 days, the source said.
