SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s rapid urbanisation has created big market opportunities for pipe grade high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP), as well as polyvinyl chloride, SABIC’s executive vice president for polymers, Mosaed Al-Ohali said on Wednesday.
“We see a trend toward urbanisation, we are seeing more people moving into big cities … so as the cities get bigger, the water network has to expand, the gas network has to expand,” he said on the sidelines of Chinaplas, a four-day regional plastics material and machinery exhibition which opened in Shanghai on 23 April.
SABIC’s high density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe grade resin - HDPE P6006 - was accepted by the China Gas Utilities PE Piping System Quality Assurance Alliance in September 2013, according to SABIC.
The Alliance, formed by five leading gas utility companies in China, namely Hong Kong Towngas, Shenzhen Gas, Beijing Gas, Guangzhou Gas and Chengdu Gas, aims to improve the quality of PE gas pipe systems in China, the company said.
Chinaplas, Asia’s largest plastics raw material and machinery exhibition, runs from 23-26 April at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Shanghai’s Pudong district.
