China sulphur import levels drop 16% Jan to Mar year on year

LONDON (ICIS)--Sulphur imports to China from the rest of the world fell from 16% year on year for the January to March period, according to China Customs data from Global Trade Information Services (GTIS) released this week.

Sulphur imports totalled 2,849,258 tonnes in the first quarter of 2014, down 16% year on year from the first quarter of 2013.

Lower downstream phosphate fertilizer demand during the first quarter and the reluctance among Chinese buyers to pay higher import prices contributed to the drop in import levels.
