SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s C-Chem is ramping up its phthalic anhydride (PA) plant in Tobata, Oita prefecture after its restart, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

The company restarted the 45,000 tonne/year plant late in the week of 14 April after it was shut in mid-March for regular maintenance, the source added.

The unit’s run rates will be gradually ramped up in the next few weeks, the source said, but further details on the exact operating rates could not be confirmed.

C-Chem is one of the two PA producers in Japan using naphthalene feedstock while another two Japanese producers are using orthoxylene (OX) feedstock.
