SINGAPORE (ICIS)--BASF PETRONAS Chemicals has restarted its oxo-alcohols facility in Kuantan at Pahang, Malaysia, after completing annual maintenance, market sources close to the company said on Friday.

The facility, which consists of a 80,000 tonne/year 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) plant, 100,000 tonne/year dioctyl phthalate (DOP) plant and a 160,000 tonne/year n-butanol (NBA) plant, was shut on 1 April for scheduled maintenance, according to the sources.

The plant’s current operating rate was said to be about 80%, they added.

This restart is unlikely to have any significant impact on the market because the company is mostly under contractual requirements, especially for 2-EH and NBA, and does not have large amounts of spot cargoes to sell.

The company could not be immediately reached for comment.
