HOUSTON (ICIS)--Arabian American Development has received approval from the Texas Department of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to add capacity to its C5 pentanes plant in Silsbee, the US-based company announced on Tuesday.
The adding of an additional process train, scheduled to be completed in late 2015, will add about 60% more capacity to meet future demand for C5s, CEO Nick Carter said in a news release.
“We have designed the additional C5 capacity to meet industry needs for the next four or five years," Carter said.
Arabian American’s Silsbee facility consists of a pentane-hexane unit, a reformer, a cyclopentane unit, a benzene unit, an aromatics hydrogenation treating unit and a white oil fractionation unit, according to the company’s website. Total capacity for all six processes is 6,400 bbl per stream day.
C5s are used as a blowing agent for expandable polystyrene (EPS).
