SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Yihai Kerry shut its 50,000 tonne/year glycerine-based epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant at Lianyungang in Jiangsu province on 5 May for maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.
The company has another 50,000 tonne/year line at the site that has been idle since 2013, according to market sources.
Yihai Kerry is planning to keep the plant shut for an unspecified period due to cost pressure, the company source said, adding that the unit is likely to be restarted when market conditions improve.
ECH supply to customers will not be affected as the company has stocked up ample inventory before the shutdown, the source said.
Yihai Kerry, a subsidiary of Wilmar International Ltd, is the third largest ECH producer in China in terms of nameplate capacity, after Shandong Haili Chemical Industry and Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Group.
