LogisticsDUBAI (ICIS)–Companies must take a more proactive approach in customs management to secure their supply chains, according to a senior official from global logistics provider DHL on Thursday.

“Companies find customs [management] is important, not only from a financial but reputation perspective,” said Sandra Fischer, global head of customs of DHL Global Forwarding.

She was speaking at the 6th Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Supply Chain Conference in Dubai.

Fischer said companies must be prepared for changes in customs processes and electronic data requirements.

“You must submit your papers electronically. From their screens, customs want to know what [shipments] to expect,” she added.

The two-day conference ends on Thursday.
