HOUSTON (ICIS)--China’s Lijin Petrochemical Plant Co plans to build a 170,000 tonne/year isobutylene unit in Shandong province, US petrochemicals technologies provider Honeywell UOP said on a Thursday.

Honeywell UOP, which won a contract for the project, said that Lijin’s new unit is expected to start up in 2015.

Under the contract, UOP will provide the engineering design, technology licensing, catalysts, adsorbents, equipment, staff training, and technical service for the project, it said.

It will provide its UOP C4 Oleflex process, which uses catalytic dehydrogenation to convert isobutane to isobutylene. In addition, UOP will provide its UOP Butamer process to convert normal butane into isobutane. Financial details were not disclosed.

Isobutylene is an important ingredient for fuels and synthetic rubber.
