US March PP imports rose 9.7% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of polypropylene (PP) for March were up by 9.7% from the same month in 2013, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

US PP imports rose to 13,516 tonnes in March 2014 from 12,325 tonnes in 2013.

Israel, Canada and Korea were the top importers of PP into the US, together representing 57% of imports. Israel sent more than six times the amount of material to the US than it did in March of 2013. Imports also increased from Canada, while they decreased slightly from Korea.

US PP exports rose by 8.2% in March to 83,703 tonnes, up from 77,348 tonnes in 2013.

Mexico, Canada and China were the top destinations for US exports, together representing 81% of exports. Exports to Mexico and China increased, while exports to Canada fell.

Major North American PP producers include LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Total, Formosa, Braskem Americas, Pinnacle Polymers, Phillips 66 and Flint Hills Resources.
