In Algeria, Fertial has unveiled plans to boost its ammonia production capacity by 40% to 1.2m tonnes/year.

The producer will invest up to $300m in expanding its ammonia operations at Arzew and Annaba that currently produce a combined 850,000 tonnes/year.

The vast majority of ammonia produced by the new lines will be exported, although some will be consumed by a new NPK line at Annaba.

However, none of the extra capacity is likely to come online before 2018 as the expansion plans are still at an early stage.
