HOUSTON (ICIS)--Production of potash in North America for April increased by 1% from March but decreased by about 10% year over year, according to data released on Wednesday by fertilizer producer PotashCorp.
The Canadian company said that production for April was 1.747m tonnes compared with 1.935m tonnes for the same period in 2013.
In terms of exports, April volumes were up by 13% from the previous month but were 19% less than the year-prior period. April 2014 exports totalled 1.092m tonnes compared with 1.346m tonnes in April 2013.
Ending inventory for North American producers was down by 274,000 tonnes for April compared with March, with stockpiles of the crop nutrient ending at 2.711m tonnes. Overall supply of the vital crop nutrient was 1% above the five-year average.
In terms of domestic sales, 967,000 tonnes were sold in April, a 2% decrease from the month earlier but a 46% increase from the year-prior period.
