SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Heilongjiang Anruijia Petrochemical is planning to start up a new 300,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) unit at Anda in Heilongjiang province in late October, a company source said on Thursday.
A 200,000 tonne/year isobutane dehydrogenation unit and a 500,000 tonne/year gas fractionation unit in Anda will begin operations simultaneously, the source added.
The new isobutane dehydrogenation unit will supply feedstock to the MTBE plant.
“Most of the MTBE output from the plant will be supplied to the market,” the source said.
This is expected to exert downward pressure on the northeast China’s MTBE market where demand and supply of the product are largely balanced, according to market sources.
Anruijia Petrochemical is currently operating two 35,000 tonne/year and 80,000 tonne/year MTBE units, with all output being sold on a spot basis, mostly in Heilongjiang and the nearby regions.
