HOUSTON (ICIS)--Agricultural titan J R Simplot confirmed on Thursday that it plans to upgrade its East Grand Forks, Minnesota fertilizer facility by building a new storage warehouse and blending operation.
The Idaho-based company said that construction of a 15,000-ton (13,608-tonne) storage warehouse and a tower blending system will begin this summer. When completed by spring 2015, it is anticipated to improve the efficiency of the fertilizer business at the Simplot Grower Solutions location.
“This project aligns with our strategy to be a fully integrated agricultural input business. From phosphate mining to fertilizer manufacturing to retail distribution, we are committed to meeting the needs of our customers at all levels,” said Garrett Lofto, Simplot AgriBusiness Group president.
Company officials said that the state-of-the-art facility will allow Simplot to introduce new products and provide an enhanced level of service to customers in the region, namely within the Red River Valley area of Minnesota, and ties directly to its long-term strategy to establish highly efficient distribution systems in key markets.
