LONDON (ICIS)--Imports of ethylbenzene (EB) into the EU from other regions were down in March 2014 compared to the same month last year, according to data from statistics agency Eurostat released on Wednesday.

Exports were also down from the same period in 2013. However, at 16 tonnes in total, the volumes involved are negligible.

EB is a highly captive product that is used in the production of styrene, with the majority of EB/SM (styrene monomer) units integrated, meaning that little material moves between global regions.

However, with the spread between benzene and styrene under considerable pressure in early 2013, this saw some players import volumes of EB in March last year for styrene production.
