SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical will restart its Kashima No 2 benzene unit on 1 July, after a scheduled turnaround that began 8 May, a source close to the company said on Friday.

The shutdown of the 370,000 tonne/year benzene facility was in line with the planned maintenance at an upstream cracker and  downstream phenol/acetone plant, the source said.

Mitsubishi also owns an aromatics unit in Mizushima that can produce 210,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 70,000 tonnes/year of toluene.

This facility will skip turnaround this year, the source said.
