HOUSTON (ICIS)--US spot market supplies of oxo-alcohols n-butanol (NBA) and isobutanol (IBA) tightened this week, market participants said on Friday.

Market sources have said that recent maintenance turnarounds at US oxo-alcohol facilities, including those of Dow Chemical and Oxea, could be the cause of tighter supply in the oxo-alcohol market.

However, NBA spot prices were assessed by ICIS down 1 cent/lb on Friday to 95-102 cents/lb ($2,094-2,249/tonne), as sources said that some competitive pricing measures were taking place in the market.

IBA spot prices were assessed steady at 118-125 cents/lb.

Major NBA and IBA producers in the US include Dow, Oxea, BASF and Eastman Chemical.

Oxo-alcohols are used as solvents, fuel additives and feedstocks for products such as butyl acrylate and glycol ethers.
