MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Major Chinese producer Jiangsu Sopo Chemical on Tuesday shut its ethyl acetate (etac) plant at Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province for an overhaul, a company source said.

The plant, which can produce 500,000 tonne/year of etac, will undergo around two weeks of regular maintenance, the source said, without explaining why the turnaround was brought forward.

“We are not offering any etac because of low inventories,” the source added.

The maintenance shutdown was initially scheduled to commence on 18 June, the source said in May.

Other major etac makers in China include Wuxi Baichuan Chemical Industrial, Shandong Jinyimeng, Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development, Jiangsu Lianhai Biological Technology, Shanghai Huayi Group and Rizhao Jiahong Biological Technology.
