HOUSTON (ICIS)--US polyethylene (PE) producer ExxonMobil shut down a transfer line at its Mont Belvieu, Texas, PE plant on 12 June, following an emissions event, according to a public filing available on Friday
The company said it identified a leak at a fixed support weld on a PE product transfer line, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Nitrogen is used to convey solid polymer product in the transfer line to a recovery system. Upon discovery of the leak, the system was isolated.
The system will remain out of service until repairs are made, according to the filing. It was not clear whether the unit had been restarted, or whether there was any lost production.
A company spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.
ExxonMobil has an 830,000 tonne/year capacity linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) unit at the site, according to ICIS plants and projects.
