LONDON (ICIS)--An explosion and fire caused by a rupture in a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fractionating column at Rosneft's oil and gas refinery of Achinsk, in eastern Siberia, left five people dead and several injured, press reports said on Monday.
Press agencies’ TV footage posted online showed large blazes and smoke following the explosion at the Russian energy major’s refinery.
The accident occurred late on 15th June as the night shift was putting equipment back online after scheduled maintenance, according to press reports citing sources from Rosneft.
According to the company’s website, the facility processed 7.46m tonnes of crude in 2010. Details about how the accident could affect production have not been released.
