PRAGUE (ICIS)--The EU in April switched to being a net exporter or orthoxylene (OX) from a net importer in the same month last year, according to data from Eurostat on Wednesday.

The switch comes as exports grew steeply year on year from 3,128 tonnes to 6,940 tonnes, while imports in April fell 84% to 1,019 tonnes.

The European downstream phthalic acid industry has seen weak volumes and poor pricing despite the permanent closure of Arkema's 90,000 tonne/year plant in Chauny, France.
