LONDON (ICIS)--European June acrylate esters contract prices are unchanged from May values, resulting in the second consecutive rollover for the market, sources said on Wednesday.
Acrylate esters include methyl acrylate (methyl-A), ethyl acrylate (ethyl-A), butyl acrylate (butyl-A) and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA).
May and June feedstock propylene prices rose by a total of €20/tonne, but acrylate esters contract prices have on average remained steady since April because of stable demand and improving supply.
Attractively-priced imports are adding further pressure to the market, with some sellers now describing availability as long.
June is usually the high season for the industry when demand from the coatings sector is at its peak. However, demand is steady with May and has largely been flat since the end of March, following better-than-expected offtake in February, prompted by mild winter temperatures.
Acrylate esters are used to make paints, coatings, textiles, adhesives, polishes and plastics.
