HOUSTON (ICIS)--Repairs on a bridge in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, will have little effect on rail shipments of Pemex's polyethylene (PE), a Pemex Petroquimica source said on Friday.

The Coatzacoalcos I bridge will be closed on 3-9 August for repairs. The closure will also stop railroad shipments of chemical products.

Products that cannot be shipped by ground transportation such as ethylene oxide (EO) and chlorine will be the most affected by the bridge repairs.

Pemex acknowledged that the repairs will affect PE shipments, but the company is taking provisions to alleviate the impact.

PE shipments will be increased prior to the closure of the bridge and any other volumes required can still be delivered by truck, if needed, the source said.

Coatzacoalcos is the production centre for basic petrochemicals and supplies the whole country.
