HOUSTON (ICIS)--Expandable polystyrene (EPS) producer NOVA Chemicals restarted its Monaca plant in Pennsylvania at the end of last week following a five day planned turnaround, sources said on Tuesday.
The turnaround at the 81,500 tonne/year plant began on 16 June, and ended as scheduled five days later, sources said.
The turnaround contributed to already snug supply in the US EPS market, particularly as supplier inventory levels were already low following a three-week long outage at the Flint Hills Resources EPS plant in Peru, Illinois, last month.
There was talk that there was another outage in the market, with a US supplier telling buyers it would have to delay July shipments. However, that information could not be confirmed.
