Two injured in fire at US Chevron Phillips Port Arthur facilityHOUSTON (ICIS)–Two people were injured in a fire overnight at the Chevron Phillips Chemical (CP Chem) facility in Port Arthur, the company said on Tuesday.

The two people injured in the incident have been hospitalised, CP Chem spokesperson Dave Hastings said.

The fire, which began on Monday evening, was localised to one area of the facility and is under control as of Tuesday morning. Cause of the blaze has not yet been determined, according to a statement by CP Chem.

CP Chem did not disclose the extent to which production at the facility has been affected by the blaze.

The plant has a capacity for 415,000 tonnes/year of cyclohexane, 803,000 tonnes/year of ethylene, 500,000 tonnes/year of propylene and 145,000 tonnes/year of toluene, according to ICIS Plants and Projects database.

A team of trained emergency response professionals was mobilised to account for employees, secure the facility and assess the damage. All personnel are accounted for, the company said.

“We ask for your patience as we manage the response to the incident,” plant manager Margie Conway said in a statement. “We will communicate additional information when it can be confirmed.”

The team is working in conjunction with emergency agencies, the company said.

The Port Arthur fire department did send a crew to the facility on Monday night, department battalion chief Mike Free confirmed on Tuesday, but he had no further details.
