Two injured in fire at US Chevron Phillips Port Arthur facilityHOUSTON (ICIS)–A fire at the Chevron Phillips Chemical (CP Chem) Port Arthur facility has been extinguished, and emergency teams continue to monitor the situation, the company said on Tuesday.

The blaze, which was localised to one area of the facility, began on Monday evening and was put out on Tuesday morning. The all-clear signal was given at 07:00 local time (12:00 GMT), CP Chem said in a statement.

A team of trained emergency response professionals was mobilised to account for employees, secure the facility and assess the damage. All personnel are accounted for, including two employees who were injured and are being treated at a hospital, the company said.

“Safety is fundamental to our company culture, and our thoughts are with our colleagues and their families during this time,” plant manager Margie Conway said.

The company would not comment on the extent to which production at the facility has been affected, nor would it confirm the area in the facility in which the fire occurred, spokesman Dave Hastings said.

The plant has a capacity for 415,000 tonnes/year of cyclohexane, 803,000 tonnes/year of ethylene, 500,000 tonnes/year of propylene and 145,000 tonnes/year of toluene, according to ICIS Plants and Projects database.

The Port Arthur fire department did send a crew to the facility on Monday night, department battalion chief Mike Free confirmed on Tuesday, but he had no further details.

A cause for the fire has not yet been determined.
