US May EPS exports fall by 6.6% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for May were down by 6.6% from the same month in 2013, according to data made available during the week by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

US EPS exports fell to 6,023 tonnes in May 2014 from 6,450  tonnes in the same month of 2013.

Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong were the top destinations for US exports taking 74% of exports, with Mexico taking more material and Canada and Hong Kong taking less.  

US EPS imports rose by 4.7% in May to 16,196 tonnes, up from 15,474 tonnes in 2013.

The Bahamas, Canada and Mexico were the top importers into the US, together representing 76% of imports. Volumes from the Bahamas and Canada declined, while volumes from Mexico increased.

Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem and Nexkemia.
