SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Xianglu Petrochemical has shut down its 1.65m tonne/year purified terephthalic (PTA) unit at Xiamen in Fujian province on a power failure on 20 July, a company source said on Monday.
The restart date has yet to be confirmed because the company is currently inspecting the unit to check if the power failure would cause mechanical problems, the source said.
The company had shut the unit down from mid-May to 10 June for maintenance this year, and it plans to shut it down again in end-August for maintenance. The shutdown plan will continue as planned, the source added.
The company has three other units at Gulei, Zhangzhou of Fujian province, with capacities of 1.5m tonnes/year each, and two of them have been in operation since starting up in April this year, with a few shutdowns, the company source said.
Currently, the two units in Gulei are operating at 50-60% of capacity, but the third has remained off line since the completion of its construction in around April, the source added.
