HOUSTON (ICIS)--Focus Ventures has received positive testing results from its first phase drilling programme at the Bayovar 12 phosphate project in Peru and has started the maiden resource study, the Canadian fertilizer developer announced on Monday
Officials said drilling at the site, near Piura, northern Peru, demonstrated a remarkable consistency in phosphate grades over long distances within the individual beds and that there was phosphate intersected in all holes drilled.
These assay results will be included in the upcoming maiden resource calculation currently being undertaken by Golder Associates, which is still expected to be completed in Q3.
In addition, Focus said that permitting for a second phase drill hole program was underway for both infill drilling plans and further expansion of the potential resource area.
The Bayovar district is located within the Sechura Desert and is a region where phosphate was discovered in the 1950s during drilling for petroleum.
Vancouver-based Focus is centered on acquiring and developing phosphate fertilizer projects in Latin America given the growing demand and limited local supply. Its concession at Bayovar 12 covers a geological target size between 100-150m tonnes of phosphate rock.
