SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical has shut its 100,000/tonne monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant in Jiangsu province, ahead of a major sporting event that will be held in Nanjing, a company source said on Tuesday.

The plant was taken off line on 27 July, the source said.

The company has yet to set a restart date for the MEG plant, the source said.

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will be held on 16-28 August, during which the Nanjing local government will restrict transportation of chemicals.

Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical's other MEG plant at the site, with a 200,000/tonne capacity, is currently operating, but is also likely be taken off line during the YOG, the company source said.
