NEW YORK (ICIS)--Formosa Plastics shut down its ethylene glycol (EG) unit at its Point Comfort, Texas, facility on Sunday because a leak occurred, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) on Monday.
Formosa was not immediately available to comment on the operational status of the unit.
The company’s operational status notices page on its website lists the current operational status of the Point Comfort plant as normal.
The Point Comfort plant has an EG capacity of 300,000 tonnes/year and an EO capacity of 250,000 tonnes/year, as assessed by ICIS.
Major EG producers in the US include BASF, Eastman Chemical, Formosa Plastics, Huntsman, Indorama Ventures, LyondellBasell, Shell Chemical, and MEGlobal. MEGlobal is a joint venture between Dow Chemical and Petrochemical Industries Co (PIC).
