HOUSTON (ICIS)--Venezuela’s polyvinyl chloride (PVC) producer Pequiven will be importing 4,000 tonnes of resin from Mexichem Colombia to cover a major shortfall, market sources in Venezuela said on Tuesday.
PVC supply is extremely tight in Venezuela as Pequiven has stopped resin production because of an intense drought in the El Tablazo region, resulting in severe shortages of water, hydroelectric power and natural gas.
International Petrochemical Sales Ltd (IPSL), Pequiven’s commercial arm, will be importing PVC from Mexichem Colombia starting in September. Imported volumes will total about 4,000 tonnes in partial shipments spread from September through October, the sources said.
The Pequiven plant has a capacity of 120,000 tonnes/year of PVC resin and is part of the Ana Maria Campos petrochemical complex, according to the company website.
