SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s Lotte Chemical is currently running its aromatics unit in Daesan at full capacity after restarting the unit early in the week, a company source said on Thursday.

The aromatics unit was shut from 7 August for a catalyst regeneration.

The aromatics unit has the capacity to produce 240,000 tonnes/year of benzene, 120,000 tonnes/year of toluene and 60,000 tonnes/year of solvent xylene (SX).

Production at the plant might be reduced by 10-20% in September because of a shortage in feedstock pyrolysis gasoline (pygas).

“Supply of pygas is tight and the prices are high now. Buying pygas from the spot market will erode our production margins,” said the source.

Lotte Chemical has no SX products available for the spot market up to October, the source said.
