Melamine is used in making wood furniture LONDON (ICIS)–Qatar Melamine Company’s melamine plant in Mesaieed, Qatar, is back to 90% capacity after suffering from production problems earlier in the month, a source from the company said on Thursday.

The shutdown at the 60,000 tonne/year plant was reported on 10 August and reduced the plant to 20% of its normal capacity. The problem has been blamed on a feedstock issue.

The source said that the reduction in capacity has resulted in delays for some of the company’s melamine shipments to Europe. It also noted that inventories have been reduced as a result of using its buffer to fulfil Q3 commitments.

Melamine is used to manufacture products such as coatings, fan coils, adhesive resins, wood panelling, furniture and flooring.
