DUBAI (ICIS)–Germany-based polymer and plastics
producer Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) is expected to
inaugurate its new toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plant at the
Chempark Dormagen site in western Germany before Christmas
this year, a market source close to the company said late on
Sunday.
The information could not be immediately verified with the
BMS’ headquarters in Germany.
According to a press release on the company’s website, the
plant with a capacity of 300,000 tonne/year is part of Bayer
MaterialScience’s long-term investment strategy in
Dormagen.
TDI market sources in the Middle East said new capacities by
Europe-based producers and the recent restart of an Asia
based producer’s plant will add to further pressure on the
already long market situation.
According to ICIS data, spot prices of TDI in the
Middle East fell by $10-25/tonne to $2,490-2,500/tonne CFR
(cost and freight) GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council)/ East Med
(East Mediterranean) in the week ending 18 September.
