SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Taiwan’s Nan Ya Plastics Corp restarted its 720,000 tonne/year No 4 ethylene glycol (MEG) plant in Mailiao on 21 Oct after a turnaround that began on 9 September, a company source said on Tuesday.

The company had planned to delay the restart of the unit to early November due to the downtrend in MEG prices in China. According to ICIS, average daily prices of MEG plunged to a four-year low of $771/tonne CFR (cost with freight) China Main Port (CMP) on 13 October and have rebounded.

Feedstock had been fed into the No 4 unit and the operating rate of the plant would be ramped up steadily over the next few days, the source said.

The No 3 plant which was shut in early October would remain shut until first-half November, the source added.
