LONDON (ICIS)–European phthalic anhydride (PA) December contract prices were assessed down €70/tonne, based on a corresponding decrease in the upstream European orthoxylene (OX) contract price, sources said late on Friday.
The December PA contract price range was assessed at €1,1047-1,1097/tonne FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe) for liquid and flake material.
The PA industry had expected a smaller drop amid OX recent tightness, with earlier forecasts varying between a rollover and a slight decrease.
Downward pressure came from lower prices in Asia and weaker demand in Europe.
PA spot prices decreased slightly following the contract price drop.
