UAE’s Borouge targeting on-spec LDPE production by end-March

LDPE is used in food packagingSINGAPORE (ICIS)–United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Borouge is targeting on-spec production of low density polyethylene (LDPE) by end of March from its new facility in Ruwais, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.

The company is expected to produce 350,000 tonne/year of LDPE from the new Borouge 3 facility.

Borouge 3 comprises a 1.5m tonne/year ethane cracker and derivative plants, including high density PE (HDPE) and linear low density PE (LLDPE) units with a combined capacity of 1.08m tonnes/year and two polypropylene (PP) units with a combined capacity of 960,000 tonnes/year.

Borouge 3 will raise the company’s olefins and polyolefins capacity to around 4.5m tonnes/year from 2m tonnes/year currently.
