Bundled transmission capacities to deliver natural gas from the Dutch TTF market area have proved the most popular new products in the first PRISMA auction of annual bundled capacity in Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands held on Monday.

In order to comply with the EU’s capacity allocation mechanism (CAM), grid operators will be required to sell bundled transport capacity, combining exit and entry rights at interconnection points, via a web-based platform from November 2015.

Several EU countries have progressively introduced monthly, seasonal, yearly and multi-yearly bundled capacity products via the pan-European PRISMA platform to comply with the code.

In the 2 March auction, European shippers booked bundled capacities to transport high- and low-calorific gas from the TTF to the German NCG and GASPOOL hubs and to the Belgian ZTP as far out as Gas Year 2017.

Grid users also booked annual bundled capacity at the north-south link from PEG Sud to PEG Nord in France and at interconnections between the German/French, French/Spanish and Spanish/Portuguese markets. No bundled annual capacity was sold at Italian interconnection points however.

The only oversubscribed bundled capacity product was southerly capacity at the French north-south link for Gas Year 2015, 2016 and 2017, for which the three auctions were still ongoing on Monday afternoon.

Shippers also took the opportunity to secure unbundled annual transmission rights at a number of Italian, Portuguese, Danish, German, Austrian, Slovenian, Dutch and French interconnections.

The longest-term unbundled bookings included entry-capacity at the Dutch Emden point to import Norwegian gas as far out as Gas Year 2020; entry-capacity at the Italian Gela interconnection to import Libyan gas as far out as Gas Year 2021; and exit-capacity at Wallbach to deliver gas from Germany to Switzerland as far out as 2029.

Unbundled annual capacity was oversubscribed at three interconnection points to ship gas between Germany and Austria in Gas Year 2015: Uberackern SUDAL, Uberackern ABG and Oberkappel. The three auctions were still continuing late on Monday. Jake Horslen
