HOUSTON (ICIS)–US spot benzene values rose on Friday an average of 4.2% over the week prior.
The bid/offer range for US spot benzene was assessed by ICIS at $2.89-3.00/gal FOB (free on board) on Friday, compared with $2.77-2.88/gal FOB the previous Friday.
US benzene spot values have been below the $3.00/gal threshold since 5 December, when prices were assessed at $2.98-3.00/gal FOB.
The recent increase in benzene values has followed six consecutive weeks of increases in NYMEX WTI prompt month crude oil futures
A benzene spot deal was heard on Thursday at $3.025/gal FOB, but the bid/offer level retreated slightly as gains in WTI crude futures stalled.
Major benzene producers include ExxonMobil, Flint Hills
Resources, LyondellBasell, Marathon Petroleum, Shell and
Phillips 66.
