HOUSTON (ICIS)–US melamine imports for 2015 were down by 38% from 2014, according to data made available this week by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

The decline was the result of the significant drop in imports from Trinidad and Tobago and China, according to the data. Both of the countries were involved in an investigation by the ITC regarding anti-dumping and countervailing duties.

Month on month, imports rose by 16% in December, the ITC said. Year on year, imports fell by 55% in December.

Meanwhile, melamine exports for 2015 were down by 9% from 2014, according to the ITC data. The decline was the result of fewer volumes shipped to the UK, Canada and Colombia.

Month on month, exports fell by 8% in December. Year on year, exports fell by 43% in December, according to the ITC.

Cornerstone Chemical is the only melamine producer in the US.
